Who we are

Ronald McDonald House Malta stands beside children and families when health needs or developmental challenges affect daily life. We believe that care is strongest when families can stay close and involved throughout their child’s journey.

Our Learning Centre provides a welcoming space, with specialised and accessible support services, where children can continue building skills for the future and parents can find reassurance and guidance.

The Learning Centre also reflects the strength of community around families. By opening the space to around 26 voluntary organisations, we have created a shared hub where therapeutic support can be offered in one caring and accessible environment. Through this collaboration, families can find practical help and a sense that they are not facing their challenges alone.

Our Mission

We stand beside children and their families when health or developmental needs make life more challenging. Through practical programmes and community partnerships, we help remove barriers, strengthen family support, and promote children’s wellbeing so they can continue to grow with confidence.

Our Vision

A community where every child who needs additional care can achieve a better quality of life, and where families have the strength and reassurance to move forward with hope.

Our story

Our work in Malta is part of a global movement that began in 1974, when the first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia.

The idea was simple: when a child needs hospital care, families should be able to stay close. Since then, Ronald McDonald House programmes have grown worldwide with the support of the wider McDonald’s community, including local owners, employees, suppliers, and customers who help make family-centred initiatives possible.

Locally, Ronald McDonald House Malta has carried this mission forward as an independent foundation since 2012, launching the Learning Centre in Qawra in 2019 – The charity’s first major project.  Supported by partners such as Premier Restaurants Malta Limited, the operator of McDonald’s in Malta, we continue to shape services around the real experiences of children in need of developmental support or medical care, and the families who stand beside them.

How we are run

Ronald McDonald House Malta is guided by a Board of Directors that oversees our direction and key decisions. We are committed to working responsibly and openly. Our finances and operations are reviewed independently, and clear policies help ensure our programmes are run ethically and accountably. This helps us maintain the trust of the children, families, partners, and donors we work with.
