Hospital days can feel long and uncertain for families, and simple moments of kindness can make a real difference.

The Family Cart, made possible by XXX Ltd., is a volunteer-led initiative that brings small comforts directly to families in paediatric wards. Operated in the evening hours, the mobile service helps reach parents and children at the point where care is being provided. Through refreshments, useful everyday items, and a calm, friendly presence, volunteers help make hospital time feel a little easier.

Why your time matters

Families often spend many long hours at the hospital, feeling tired and worried. You can help create moments of relief during these days.

By supporting the Family Cart, you become part of a caring presence that reaches families where they are.

What Family Cart volunteers do

Volunteers work in small teams and follow a simple, structured routine. The focus is on being present, respectful, and reassuring during scheduled evening visits.

You’d be helping by:

  • Visiting paediatric wards with the Family Cart
  • Offering refreshments and comfort items
  • Giving clear information about available support within Ronald McDonald House
  • Providing a listening ear

Who can volunteer

We welcome volunteers who are kind, dependable, and at ease in hospital spaces. You don’t need to have a medical background and no special skills are needed – just kindness and willingness to support.

Many families respond positively to volunteers who bring life experience and emotional understanding. If you’ve raised children or supported others through challenging situations, you’ll feel especially comfortable in this role.
